How to Help Children Pass Through the Space Sensitive Period?

The space sensitive period is mainly reflected in the children's exploration and understanding of space, and the development content of children at different ages is different. The child experienced the concept of space from the moment he was born. When they grow up a little, they will experience this space full of material and integrate themselves with the material world.



Performance characteristics of children in the space sensitive period


Children's space sensitive period lasts from 0 years old to 6 years old. At first, they like to pull high-altitude items to the ground, and find them again, then they will go to pull back. They repeat this thing, and enjoy it, as shown in Figure1-1.

By the time the process is reached to the extreme, they begin to repeat through the inside and outside of the items. The holes are inexplicable for them, as shown in Figure 1-2.

Then they liked building items and then pushed them down repeatedly.It is a typical feeling of space, as shown in Figure 1-3.

Then they began to be interested in the small space, so at this time we often see many children drilled under the table, or drilled into the large closet and carton to play etc. as shown in Figure 1-4.

Then they began to like the heights again. Repeating to climb stairs, sill the windows, jump from the chair or bed were all attractive to them, as shown in Figure 1-5,1-6.

This stage is the stage of child naughty that we are familiar with, but in fact it is the way they explore the world and the way they grasp the space. If children can successfully pass this sensitive period, their own ability, self-exploration, and self-limit breakthroughs can be greatly improved.

How to help children to successfully pass through the space sensitive period


1) After excluding clear high-risk factors (such as falling down, etc.), giving the child a free-flowing environment and protect him within a few meters. encouraging him to overcome himself with little difficulties , don't talk endlessly, or give a hand at a point. If the danger is often extended to the child, it will bring a huge sense of crisis to the child and undermine his self-protection ability.


2) Create a game scene based on the children's different points of interest, so that he can conditionally carry out more space exploration. Such as:


◎ Hiding at home, let the children find shelter under the table, in the closet or behind the sofa;

◎ Using a cardboard box to set up caves and tunnels for children to drill;

◎ Using a tent, a big toy box, or a small table with a long tablecloth, to make a child's own secret room. They will hide in it and enjoy themselves;

◎ Put the building block high , and find ways to help your child get higher, such as building against the wall;

◎ Go for outdoor exploration, such as climbing, forest adventure, etc.


3)Using space words when talking with children, such as front, back, top, bottom, far, near, etc., to help children understand the spatial relationship between objects and improve the level of spatial awareness.
